A new idea for Lane County, OR!The idea for The Breast Cafe Around was inspired by The Baby Café based in the UK. They have over 350 sites, worldwide, since the year 2000, only 12 of which are located here in the U.S. The closest of which is in Texas.
Mission Statement Our mission is to provide assistance to those who seek information about breastfeeding, regardless as to their choice in feeding their own children, giving them peer assistance in the area of breastfeeding, providing a loving and comfortable environment for women to nurse their children in public, where they can still meet or gather others with the same or similar intentions. Our goal is to lessen the amount of mothers who feel forced into weaning, by correcting misinformation, dissolving myths or even to be a liaison for mothers and their place of employment if necessary. For those who don’t breastfeed, we offer to provide them a safe place they can go to ask questions of knowledgeable peers, without feeling shame or embarrassment about the questions they ask. Whom do we welcome? We know that sometimes moms just need a place to sit and rest for a while or to catch up with an old friend. A safe and friendly atmosphere which is calm, and chaotic alike (with kids of all ages being welcome, it is hard not to imagine there to be some level of chaos), is what we will provide. Breast Café Around’s goal will be to change the business world’s idea of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should not be thought of as an indecent act to be performed behind closed doors in a room the size of a closet. Breast Café Around welcomes mothers of all walks of life, regardless of how they have chosen to feed their child, but it will be geared more towards those who have chosen to breastfeed their child, as well as those who support them. Breast Café Around also welcomes men from all walks of life, as they are the backbone of the support system to the breastfeeding mother. This is important as it can make or break a woman’s will to breastfeed, so the more that the male influence understands and accepts a mother’s choice to breastfeed, the better. Breast Café Around naturally welcomes children of all ages, however it is the mother’s responsibility to watch and care for her own child/ren. A mother may ask for the assistance of other mothers and volunteers, but ultimately the safety and responsibility of the child/ren lies with the mother. That being said, as smaller children often fall asleep when their mom wants to eat, Breast Café Around has made it easier for moms by having Moses baskets and nap pads for sleeping children.. | Resources·
